How to export Wells Fargo statements to Excel or CSV
Wells Fargo exports recent transactions directly, which is all you need for current bookkeeping or a budget. For anything older, or for statements you only have as PDFs, you will need a converter. Both paths below.
Use "Download Account Activity"
- 1. Sign on at wellsfargo.com (or the mobile app).
- 2. Select the account to view its transactions.
- 3. Click the "Download Account Activity" link.
- 4. Choose a format — Spreadsheet (CSV), Excel, Quicken, or QuickBooks — pick the date range, and download.
A Wells Fargo specific: many transactions carry the prefix "PURCHASE AUTHORIZED ON MM/DD" before the merchant name, plus a trailing reference code. It is accurate but noisy — you will want the merchant isolated for any analysis.
When you only have the PDF
For older periods or a closed account, convert the PDF statement. bankpdf's Wells Fargo adapter isolates the merchant name from the PURCHASE AUTHORIZED prefix, normalizes the date and amount columns, and reconciles the total against the printed balance to flag any missing line — the failure you cannot catch by eye.
Categories and accounting export
Raw rows still need categorizing. Converting through bankpdf applies 15 categories automatically, remembers your per-merchant rules, and exports to CSV/Excel or directly to QuickBooks, Xero, or OFX.
Only have the PDF statement? The Wells Fargo converter page walks through it — and the same flow covers Chase, Bank of America, Citi and 80+ banks.
